To understand the significance of the unlocker, one must remember the original design. Power of Chaos operated on a strict reward system. Winning against the AI netted you a random selection of cards, many of which were useless "fodder" monsters like "Mushroom Man" or basic Equip Spells. To get the heavy hitters—cards like Dark Magician , Exodia the Forbidden One , or Black Luster Soldier —players had to win dozens of matches against an AI that cheated with perfect hands.
