Visitors to the area report a strange acoustic phenomenon: a low-frequency hum, similar to a baritone wind instrument, that emanates from the coyote’s “mouth” arch just before sunset. Scientists attribute this to wind shear across the hollowed-out tube of the “throat” butte. Locals say it is the coyote still trying to call the sky back.
