The game takes place 100 years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The story follows the Divine Beasts, ancient machines that have been tasked with protecting Hyrule from the impending Calamity. However, the Beasts have been taken over by the dark powers of Calamity Ganon, and it's up to the players to take control of the Champions and other characters from the Zelda universe to fight against the forces of evil.
