The story follows Mrinal Sen, a struggling and failed filmmaker from Kolkata whose life and career are in shambles. He receives a sudden opportunity to direct a film in Jharkhand and travels to Jharia with his assistant director, Riddhima.

Dhanbad Blues is one of Hoichoi’s early original productions, launched in the platform’s inaugural year (2017-18). It attempts to transplant the gritty, neo-noir crime genre – popularized globally by series like Narcos or Sacred Games – into the small-town coal-mining heartland of Eastern India.

The story of "Dhanbad Blues" revolves around a young and idealistic police officer, who is transferred to Dhanbad to serve as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The officer, played by acclaimed actor Parambrata Chatterjee, is determined to clean up the city of its corruption and crime. However, he soon realizes that the system is stacked against him, and that the powerful forces of corruption are not easily defeated.

Mrinal, struggling in career and life, accepts a mysterious job offer in Jharkhand. Ruti-Ruji Calling
